Opportunity Place, Inc.’s (OPI) Harlem Nights Casino Affair was a roaring success, raising a whopping $30,000. The glitzy 1920s-themed event, held at The Island Resort in Fort Walton Beach, marked OPI’s 15th year of offering refuge to homeless women and families across Okaloosa and Walton Counties.

A warm welcome was extended by OPI Board Chair Laura Vermillion and Albert Sousa, Founder and CEO of Mortgage Apex, reiterating their heartfelt thanks for supporting OPI’s mission. The night unfolded into a thrilling experience, with guests relishing a gourmet dinner, an enthralling dance performance by Swing Dancers, and exciting casino games. The night was made possible by generous sponsorships from organizations such as Sunshine Financial and Emerald Coast Harley Davidson.

Laura praised the event, “The Harlem Nights Casino night celebrated our 15 years of service and was a hit. Everyone had a blast gaming, listening to music by Boukou Groove, and capturing memories in the Epic Photo Booth. A heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors and silent and live auction donors. The event raised over $30,000 for OPI’s programming.”

With roots dating back to 2008, OPI has been a beacon of hope for homeless individuals in Okaloosa/Walton. OPI offers an emergency safe shelter and supportive services at 305 Lovejoy Road in Fort Walton Beach. For help, email or call 850-659-3190.

The Harlem Nights Casino affair is here to stay as a signature event. “We hope to see it grow next year as more people realize what a unique event it is. OPI is a vital resource in Okaloosa and Walton counties, providing a lifeline for homeless families seeking sustainable futures,” said Laurel.
