Experience the thrill of good fortune while paving a path for the future leaders of America at the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit 235‘s 2nd Annual Drawdown Fundraiser. Set in the heart of Fort Walton Beach at 105 Hollywood Boulevard NW, this event blasts off at 2 p.m. on November 19th.
A drawdown like no other, this fundraiser fuels the dreams of young girls by funding $10,000 in scholarship opportunities through the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State and Empowering Young Women programs. A mere $50 gives you the entry ticket to this grand event, with only 400 tickets up for grabs. If you’re over 21, seize this opportunity – the bartender at the American Legion or an Auxiliary member can make you the lucky owner of a ticket.
The 2nd Annual Draw Down Fundraiser could crown you with a grand prize of $5,000, but that’s not all. There are additional cash prizes worth $5,000 awaiting their winners. Anita J Horn, President of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 235, recalls how last year’s Drawdown collected over $9,000 for scholarships. This year, the goal remains the same: to extend a golden chance to two girls to experience Florida Girl State and award two $1,750 scholarships to graduating young women.
But what makes the 2nd Annual Drawdown Fundraiser truly special is its role in molding the leaders of tomorrow. The ALA Girls State, a week-long program, instills a sense of responsible citizenship, leadership, and love for God and country in young women who have successfully completed their junior year of high school. A valuable week of experiential learning shapes them into responsible adults, active citizens, and future leaders.
Members of the American Legion Post 235, including male and female spouses, grandmothers, mothers, sisters, and direct and adopted female descendants of The American Legion members or veterans themselves, share a common belief in patriotism and veterans advocacy. They step up to the call of “Service Not Self,” serving, educating, and giving back to the military. “The 2nd Annual Draw Down Fundraiser enables us to invest in our future leaders,” says Anita Horn. “The scholarships help young women kick-start their career goals. We believe in encouraging and supporting these young women. It’s all about creating wonderful opportunities for their future.”
